Subaru’s knife-sharp BRZ entry-level sports car has now had a couple of model years to gestate on the market, and along with its twin the Scion FR-S, it’s still our favorite car under $30k. Now reports from Car and Driver state that Subaru will release a special-edition BRZ model for 2015, and it may well feature performance upgrades from the brand’s STI division.

In Japan, Subaru currently sells a hotter version of the car known as the BRZ tS, which shares the standard BRZ’s 200-horsepower naturally aspirated Boxer 4-cylinder engine but comes with suspension upgrades from STI, as well as a massive rear wing, upgraded front aero kit and a whole lot of extra visual flair. While it’s not yet known whether the new U.S.-market car will be more of a visual re-do than an upgraded performance beast, sources say the new car will not get turbocharging, or a more-powerful engine option. No full-on STI model variant is in the cards just yet, Subaru says.

Whatever Subaru has planned for the new hotter BRZ, it’s expected to debut in Spring 2014 with a dealership release coming in time for Summer. Pricing will likely come at a premium over the current 2014 model, though will stay well under $30,000.
